KUCHING: Engaging in activities at the local level can empower new leaders, particularly women, to demonstrate their capabilities in organising sports events. Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri emphasised that promoting sports can enhance both the physical and mental well-being of the community.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nancy added that such initiatives can help identify athletic talent, boost productivity, promote well-being, and foster a spirit of unity among citizens. “A healthy lifestyle, supported by sports and proper nutrition, can reduce the prevalence of chronic diseases among women and improve the life expectancy of Sarawakians in the future,” she stated.
Nancy, who is also the Member of Parliament for Santubong, made these remarks at the opening ceremony of the Sports League 2024 programme at Kuching Polytechnic today. She highlighted that the organisation of the P.193 Santubong Sports League 2024 programme represents a continuous effort by the Santub
ong Parliamentary Service Centre to encourage the community to embrace a culture of healthy, active living.
Additionally, Nancy pointed out that the programme aims to foster a spirit of unity among the people by promoting enjoyable activities with friends and family. “Racial unity can be achieved through mutual respect and consensus. Sports serve as an effective means to connect individuals and promote unity across different races,” she added.
