Wandering tarsier released back into the wild in Agusan Norte town

Butuan: The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Carmen, Agusan del Norte reported on Friday the release of a rescued tarsier back into its natural habitat.

MENRO said a local resident handed over the tarsier after it was found early Thursday in their farm in Sitio Baga, Barangay Manoligao.

‘The resident reported that the tarsier was foraging in their farm when it was chased by their dogs,’ MENRO said in a press statement.

The farm owner secured the tarsier and brought it to MENRO for proper care and disposition.

After a medical examination, the primate was deemed healthy and released later in the day.

‘After several monitoring efforts, we have confirmed the presence of tarsiers in the mountains of Carmen,’ the MENRO said.

The first tarsier documented in the area was found in June 2023 and released back into the wild in January 2024.
