PASIR MAS, Feb 28 — Although the relief mission had to go past inundated routes to reach flood victims in Pasir Mas, it did not dampen the spirit of local leaders, government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to donate aid.
Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the responsibility of providing assistance had to be fulfilled because the beleaguered flood victims needed immediate aid no matter what the odds.
“To reach the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tok Sangkut here, my team had to go through a path that was flooded almost 1.5 metres deep for as far as two kilometres.
“However, all our efforts and methods paid off as we managed to reach the PPS and deliver donations to 297 flood victims by using boats, sampans and quarry lorries,” he told Bernama at Kampung Tok Sangkut, here today.
Ahmad Fadhli said apart from his personal contribution, assistance such as food supplies, basic necessities, drinks, clothes and disposable diapers was given by the Social Welfare Department (JKM) through local leaders.
“So far, we have provided assistance to eight PPS in this district and this mercy mission of donations will continue until they are allowed to return after the floods subside,” said Ahmad Fadhli, who was assisted by Meranti state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.
Meanwhile, Kota Bharu People’s Association (POKB) welfare head Nozly Hairani Suhana Mohamed said its entourage together with NGO Sanggar Suri also reached their destinations to donate food supplies because they understood the difficulties that flood victims faced.
“If not for us, as caring citizens and leaders, who else would come to the aid of the flood victims in their time of need,” Nozly asserted.
