UNITEN RETAINS SELF-ACCREDITED UNIVERSITY STATUS UNTIL 2027

KUALA LUMPUR, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) has successfully maintained its self-accredited university status accorded by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) until 2027.

UNITEN said the status qualifies it to accredit its own academic programmes except those which require accreditation and recognition by relevant professional bodies.

“The recognition of the self-accreditation status was given following an audit carried out by MQA, which was carried out in August 2023 that assessed and identified the strength of the university’s internal quality assurance implementation,’ it said in a statement.

UNITEN vice-chancellor Prof Dr Khairul Salleh Mohamed Sahari, in the same statement, said the success was due to the cooperation from the workforce, students, alumni and all the stakeholders involved in supporting the university.

“We hope this achievement will improve the quality of graduates as well as the trust of the stakeholders at the national and international levels. It is also a contribution to
the level of educational quality in Malaysia,’ he said.

The submission of the UNITEN self-accreditation status report card was held during the MQA engagement programme on April 20 and it was attended by Higher Education director-general Prof Dr Azlinda Azman and MQA chief executive officer Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Shatar Sabran.

Also present from UNITEN were acting deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and International) Prof Dr Izham Zainal Abidin, director of Quality Advancement Centre (QAC) Prof Dr Hanim Salleh, College of Continuing Education dean (CCEd) Prof Dr Rosmiza Mokhtar and director of Centre of Academic Advancement and Flexible Learning (CAFEL) Dr Jehana Ermy Jamaluddin.
