KUANTAN, The Educational Tourism Programme (Edutourism) introduced by Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) is positioning the university as a premier educational tourism hub in Pahang, boosting both community well-being and local economic resilience.
Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah expressed pride in the programme, which has successfully attracted over 150 international participants since its launch in May, including Indonesia, China, Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, Pakistan and Egypt.
‘I am very pleased with UMPSA’s Edutourism initiative, which establishes UMPSA as the leading educational tourism hub in Pahang.
‘The programme integrates English learning modules, technology, cultural heritage and visits to significant sites around Pahang,’ Tengku Hassanal said.
Tengku Hassanal, who is also Pro-Chancellor of UMPSA, said this in his Royal Address at UMPSA’s 19th Convocation Ceremony held at the university’s Gambang campu
s today.
Tengku Hassanal also commended the university’s initiatives to support persons with disabilities by providing resources and promoting equal rights for the community.
Addressing the graduates, he encouraged them to steer clear of illegal activities, remain grateful to their parents for their sacrifices and contribute meaningfully to Malaysia and Pahang.
‘I am confident that UMPSA graduates are sought after by employers and uphold high standards of quality and excellence,’ Tengku Hassanal added.
During the convocation, Tengku Hassanal conferred the title of Professor Emeritus to Datuk Seri Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim, recognising his extensive contributions to UMPSA and higher education.
Daing, UMPSA’s third vice-chancellor from 2008 to 2019, is currently the Rector of Oxus University, Uzbekistan.
Expressing his gratitude, Daing said the award signifies the support and trust he has received throughout his career at UMPSA.
UMPSA vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Yuserrie Zainudin said the three-day convoc
ation will see 5,115 graduates receiving various degrees, diplomas, and doctorates, including 83 PhDs and 1,717 UMPSA Advanced lifelong learning programme graduates.
For the first time, UMPSA, in collaboration with Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU), will confer dual degrees to three graduates.
Formerly known as UMP, UMPSA has produced 48,378 graduates since its inaugural convocation in 2006, achieving a graduate employability rate of 97.3 per cent.
