PASIR PUTEH, Feb 12 – The Government plans to turn Tok Bali here into a halal food resource hub port for the Asian region in the future, says Agriculture and Food Industries Deputy Minister II Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh.
He said halal products would be exported through the Tok Bali Port due to its strategic sea route.
“The public also need not worry, if a product is imported from a country like China, for example, it will transit at the Tok Bali port first, to ensure that the products are halal.
“I am quite confident the port will become a leading trading centre one day,” he told reporters after officiating the Keluarga Malaysia Sales Programme at Bandar Baharu Pasir Puteh here, today.
Elaborating further, Nik Zawawi, who is also Pasir Puteh MP said the government was also planning to build a sardine processing factory in Tok Bali. The project is expected to kick-off under the 12th Malaysian Plan (12MP)
Earlier, the Finance Ministry had approved a special tax incentive in a move to attract more investment in Kelantan that would benefit Tok Bali as a new growth centre in the state.
Under the scheme, the government is providing 100 per cent income tax exemption for 15 years, and a special income tax rate of 17 per cent for the following five years.
