S’wak Polls: GPS parties must work together to ensure win in Dudong – Tiong

SIBU, Dec 7 — Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has urged members of all four Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties to work together to ensure victory in Dudong in the 12th Sarawak State Election on Dec 18.

The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president, who is the GPS candidate for the Dudong seat, also called on everyone to remain calm and not get too emotional if the individual of their choice was not selected as a candidate.

“What is important is that I hope all parties don’t get emotional and work together for the sake of the people (of Dudong)… the political party is just a platform,” he told reporters at the PDP-Dudong service centre today.

Previously, Dudong Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) chairman Wong Chin Yong, who is also a member of the party’s central working committee, had been touted as the frontrunner to be the GPS candidate the Dudong seat.

The GPS coalition comprises Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), SUPP and PDP.

Tiong then cited how for the Opar seat, which is being contested by a GPS candidate from SUPP, the proposer and operations room chief were members of PDP but they all still worked together as a team.

The Dudong seat this time will see an eight-cornered fight involving Tiong, who is also the Bintulu Member of Parliament, Wong Hie Ping of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Jane Lau Sung Yee of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), Julius Enchana of Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB), Paul Ling Fong of DAP, Josephine Lau Kiew Peng of Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak (Aspirasi), Engga Unchat (Independent) and Cardock @ Fadhil Mohamad Isa (Independent).
