SUKMA 2024: Zi Hong Overcomes Fever – And Rival – For N. Sembilan’s First Gold

KUCHING, Wushu exponent Wong Zi Hong overcame fever and his rival in the men’s taijiquan final to deliver Negeri Sembilan their first gold medal at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) here today.

Zi Hong, making his second appearance after winning bronze at the previous edition in Kuala Lumpur, had no choice but to soldier on despite being weakened physically after coming down with a fever last night.

However, the 20-year-old from Seremban managed to collect the highest number of points of 9.596 among the 12 competitors to clinch his first SUKMA gold.

‘I’m delighted because I just won the first gold medal for Negeri Sembilan and I’m thrilled to bits.

‘I did not perform well today at all. (I only performed at) 80 per cent, not my best because I’m down with a fever…I did not feel well as this is the second day I’ve got a fever,’ he said when met after the medal presentation ceremony at the SSC Wushu Hall here.

Meanwhile, Lee Cheng Yang of the Federal Territories took silver while Sarawak’s Mok Xiau Yuan sett
led for bronze after they both accumulated 9.593 points.

Wushu, which combines martial arts with graceful movements, began yesterday and offers a total of 28 gold medals throughout the three days of competition.
