SUKMA 2024: One New Games Record Set, 35 Golds On Offer Tomorrow


KUCHING, The 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), which was official opened tonight in dazzling fashion, saw one new Games record since the medal chase began on Wednesday (Aug 14).

Over at the Sarawak Shooting Range today, Negeri Sembilan’s Gan Chen Jie clinched the women’s 50-metre (m) Rifle 3 Positions individual gold medal with a score of 574 points, eclipsing the old SUKMA record of 569 points set by Perak’s Nurul Syafani Nabilah Abdul Razak at the 2022 edition.

Meanwhile, Sarawak continued to be perched atop the medal tally with 13 gold medals as of 11.30 pm, followed by Federal Territories (nine golds); Terengganu (eight); Melaka (seven) and Penang (six).

Tomorrow, a total of 35 gold medals will be up for grabs, with karate offering eight; taekwondo and shooting (six each); and archery and golf (four each).

Meanwhile, squash, petanque and bowling will offer two gold medals each and one in rhythmic gymnastics.
