SUKMA 2024: Muhammad Ajmal Soars With An Eagle To Take Second-round Lead


KUCHING, Selangor golfer Muhammad Ajmal Amin Mohd Fajri scored a brilliant eagle en route to taking a two-shot lead in the second-round of the men’s individual event at the 2024 Malaysia Games today.

The 17-year-old scored the eagle at the par-five fifth hole and carded seven birdies (holes 1, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 17) to end at the day at the Sarawak Golf Club with a nine-under 63 – and a two-day total of seven-under 137 – to top the leaderboard.

Overnight leader Anson Yeo Boon Xiang of Sarawak dropped to second after carding four birdies (holes 3, 6, 8 and 13) for a four-under 68 score and a two-day total of five-under 139, followed by Perak’s Aiden Tai John Robert (one-over 145) ahead of the final round tomorrow.

In the women’s category, Sarawak’s Mirabel Ting cancelled her two bogeys with a seven-birdie spree to card a five-under 67 – and a two-day total of eight-under 136 – to pull further away from the chasing pack.

The 19-year-old Mirabel blew up on the fourth and sixth holes but lessened the blow w
ith birdies on holes 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 13, 18 to open up an eight-stroke lead.

Federal Territories’ Ng Jing Xuen carded a one-under 71 for a two-day total of par 144 to stay in second spot, followed by Perak’s Wang Xin Yao (one-over 73 for a two-over 146 total).

Meanwhile, Selangor continued to top the leaderboard in the men’s team event with a combined score of four-over 436, followed by Sarawak (13-over 445).

In the women’s team event, Perak have overtaken Sarawak at the top of the leaderboard with a combined score of 20-over 452 as the SUKMA host dropped to second with a 25-over 457 total.
