SUKMA 2024: It’s A Perak-ft Showdown For Mixed Team Tennis Gold

KUCHING, Federal Territories (FT) and Perak will square off for the mixed team tennis gold medal at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) after both teams advanced to the final with identical 3-2 wins over their semi-final opponents today.

In the semi-finals held at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) here, FT downed Sarawak while Perak overcame Selangor.

In the match between FT and Sarawak, FT went 1-0 ahead through women’s singles player Nao Phang Ziyi, who defeated Nathanielle Ann Wan Xuan Lee 6-0, 6-1.

Sarawak then levelled the score through the men’s doubles combination of Raidon Tan Xue Long-Hii Shieng Wee, who beat Aqil Adibi Rahiman-Nicholas Kong Yi Ren 6-1, 6-3, before women’s doubles pair Eljora Hii Xin Xiang-Lydia Liong Tng En put the hosts 2-1 up with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Athilla Miasara Azizul Azhar-Lynn Lim.

FT, however, bounced back to make it 2-2 when their mixed doubles pair of Darrshan Suresh Kumar-Daania Daniella Hazli beat Matthew Goh Ying Hui-Hui Yii Soo 6-7, 6-3, 10-3.

FT’s men’s s
ingles ace Leroy Yong Nan Er then trounced Sarawak’s Ayden Shah Deen Heshaam 6-0, 6-1 for the winning point.

Tennis offers four gold medals at this year’s edition.
