Sukma 2024: FT Snag Lawn Bowls Gold In Men’s Pairs,Triples


KUCHING, Aug 16 — The Federal Territories (FT) showcased their lawn bowls prowess at SUKMA 2024, taking gold in both the men’s pairs and triples events at the Lawn Bowl Arena here today.

In a thrilling men’s pairs final, FT’s Faris Syuhairil Ahmad Syukri and Muhammad Afiq Azman had to overcome nail-biting moments before edging Sarawak’s Mohammad Aryan Nazrullah Nazaruddin and Muhammad Ramadhan Mohamad Jeffy with a 11-10 win after the match was tied at 10-10.

Johor’s Akmal Darwisy Abdul Rahim and Amirul Danial Abdul Rahim, meanwhile, grabbed bronze with a convincing 15-8 win over Terengganu’s Muhammad Haziq Mat Yusoff and Wan Muhammad Haikal Wan Ruzali.

It was a different scenario, however, in the men’s triples event, which saw FT cruise to victory, defeating Terengganu 15-9, while Johor clinched the bronze with a tight 11-10 win over Selangor.

‘I’m thrilled with our double gold haul today. We targeted gold in the men’s pairs but also snagged it in the triples.

‘Our target was two gold, and we’re now se
tting our sights on another in the men’s singles,’ FT lawn bowls team coach Fairul Izwan Abd Muin said.

In the women’s singles final, Terengganu’s Nur Ain Kemilia Sukri strolled to a 20-11 win over Selangor’s Nur Najla Damia Mustakim, while bronze was secured by Sarawak’s Dayang Nur Alia Sharmiela Abang Gadisa, who edged out Nur Syafira Muhammad Redzuan of FT 19-18.

Selangor, meanwhile, redeemed themselves with a gold in the women’s fours, defeating Pahang 15-13, while Sabah took the bronze after a 10-7 victory over Kedah.
