Strong earthquake hits Tajikistan, border of Xinjiang region

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) — A strong earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale hit Tajikistan and near the border of China’s Xinjiang region at 8.37 am today.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement, the earthquake with a depth of 49 kilometres occurred 363 km northeast of Taloqan, Afghanistan.

However, the earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia.
