SM Sains Bagan Datoh Are KPS Berhad Celik Initiative 2024 Champions


SHAH ALAM, Sekolah Menengah (SM) Sains Bagan Datoh, Perak claimed the top spot for KPS Berhad Celik Initiative 2024 Championship grand finale held at the National Science Centre yesterday.

Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Berhad (KPS Berhad) said in a statement that Epiphyllum-Q defeated 20 other teams from selected schools across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, and Negeri Sembilan with their project titled Fish Catappa. to win the competition, held by KPS Berhad Celik to enhance Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among Malaysian youth.

“Building on its foundation from the previous year, this year’s initiative saw 320 students participate in the six-week programme where they developed innovative STEM projects addressing key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) such as good health, quality education, clean water, affordable energy, and climate action.

“The initiative culminated in a series of STEM Carnivals held at the students’ own schools, where their projects were showc
ased and evaluated by a panel of professional judges,” KPS Berhad said.

Meanwhile, KPS Berhad Chief Sustainability Officer Zul Mawardi said the return of the KPS Celik Initiative has been remarkably proven by the creative and fresh ideas from participating students.

“This initiative not only enhances their academic capabilities but also empowers them with the skills needed for future challenges,’ he said.

Introduced in July 2023, the KPS Berhad Celik Initiative aligns with government’s goal to achieves a 60:40 ratio of science to arts students as well as aiming to promote STEM education among lower-secondary B40 students through engaging workshops and hands-on learning experiences.

The programme is a community skill and capability-building activity organised by KPS Berhad in collaboration with the Education Ministry to equip lower-secondary B40 students with practical STEM skills they can apply in their daily lives and studies.
