Senior citizen yields P10-M shabu in Lapu-Lapu City

CEBU: A senior citizen from this capital city yielded a total of 1.5 kilos of shabu worth PHP10.4 million and a loose firearm during a sting operation in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City on Monday night.

The City Intelligence Unit and City Drug Enforcement Unit of Lapu-Lapu City Police Station carried out the operation against 60-year-old ‘Greg’ of Sitio Ponce, Barangay Capitol Site.

The local intelligence coordinated with the Regional Intelligence Division and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Central Visayas after learning that the person they were about to arrest was listed as a high-value individual on the drug watchlist.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan, who personally watched as the authorities conducted an on-site inventory of seized evidence, said that he was disgusted that the historical city has illegal drug transactions.

‘He is a senior citizen, but he continues to engage in illegal drug business right here in our city. Thanks to our city intelligence unit for his arrest,’ Chan said.

The s
uspect is detained at the holding facility in Lapu-Lapu City Police Office while waiting for the filing of drug charges.
