Selangor’s Hong Quan-Muhammad Faiq Stun Top Seeds For men’s Doubles Gold


SIBU, Selangor shuttlers Lok Hong Quan-Muhammad Faiq Haziq Masawi produced a magnificent fightback to stun top seeds Goh Boon Zhe-Rayner Beh Chun Meng of Penang to clinch the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) men’s doubles gold medal at the Sibu Indoor Stadium here today.

Hong Quan-Muhammad Faiq Haziq deserve credit for their tenacity and perseverance en route to a 19-21, 21-19, 21-15 victory.

National badminton legend Datuk Razif Sidek’s son, Muhammad Fazriq partnered Bryan Jeremy Goonting to deliver the bronze medal for Federal Territories by defeating Selangor’s Goh Yi Qin-Wong Vi Sean 21-15, 20-22, 21-12.

Meanwhile, in the women’s doubles final, Johor’s Dania Sofea Zaidi-Low Zi Yu bounced back from a game down to beat Perak’s Chong Jie Yu-Vannee Gobi Yap 19-21, 21-19, 21-12 for the gold medal.

Kedah twins Cheng Su Hui-Cheng Su Yin took bronze after defeating FT’s Amanda Yap Hwa Leng-Ong Xie Yee 21-13, 21-17.

Melaka’s Aaron Tai Wei Qin-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan were in their element as they carved out a 21
-17, 21-16 win over Penang’s Tan Wei Liang-Khor Jing Wen to bag the mixed doubles gold.

Selangor’s Muhammad Haris Safuan Shazlan-Wong Zi Yi settled for bronze after defeating Sarawak’s Jeremy Juan Zhen Liang-Genevie Lim Tsin Yeen 21-18, 11-21, 23-21.
