Selangor Establishes Special Committee to Enhance Care Services for Vulnerable Groups.

Selangor: The Selangor government has established a Special Committee on the Improvement of Care Services (JKPPP) to review, evaluate, and improve laws related to care services for children, the elderly, and the disabled in the state. State Women Development and Social Welfare Committee chairman Anfaal Saari stated that the committee, chaired by Subang Jaya Assemblywoman Michelle Ng Mei Sze, will focus its first-year efforts on enhancing guidelines and regulations concerning child care.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a recent police report indicated that Selangor has recorded the highest cases of sexual abuse and child abuse in Malaysia for three consecutive years. This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need to identify gaps in the existing legal framework and guidelines to ensure children’s safety. “This shows how critical the need is to review, identify loopholes and improve the existing legal system and guidelines to ensure the safety of children,” Anfaal Saari commented in a statement.

Beyond
safety, Assemblywoman Ng highlighted the necessity of revisiting current guidelines to motivate care centre operators for children, the elderly, and the disabled to register their facilities with the appropriate government authorities. The formation of the committee aligns with the state government’s broader efforts to refine guidelines in response to a growing population. “Demand for care services is expected to increase, and therefore these improvements are critical to ensure the welfare and safety of the most vulnerable,” Ng added.
