Sea travel suspension stays in Surigao Norte – PCG

BUTUAN CITY – The Philippine Coast Guard Station in Surigao del Norte (CGS-SDN) maintained its temporary suspension of sea travel on Monday due to strong gale-force winds affecting Mindanao’s western, northern, and eastern seaboards.

In an updated advisory, the CGS-SDN extended the suspension to cover sea routes between Surigao del Norte and Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Siargao Island, and Bucas Grande Island.

The suspension applies to vessels and watercraft with a gross tonnage of 250 and below.

“The suspension will remain in place until further notice,” the CGS-SDN said. “Small watercraft are advised to stay in port or seek safe harbor until the weather improves.”

On Sunday, the CGS-SDN issued a separate advisory urging residents in coastal areas to stay alert due to the adverse weather conditions.

Fishermen were advised not to venture out to sea, and beachgoers were discouraged from visiting the shorelines amid the rough seas and strong winds.
