Kuching: The people of Sarawak can use the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) to provide feedback on any government policy and programme. Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Communications and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, highlighted that UKAS’ role is not only to convey the government’s intentions but also to gather feedback from the people. He emphasized the need for UKAS to effectively disseminate accurate and swift information to bridge the understanding gap between the Sarawak government and its citizens. Abdullah spoke on this matter during the closing ceremony of a programme focusing on current issues and explanations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abdullah stressed the importance of community input on governmental programmes and policies. He acknowledged that while initiatives may seem well-planned at the Cabinet, minister, and deputy minister levels, the community’s perspective is crucial to fully gauge their effectiveness. He encouraged Sarawakians to
express their views on the performance of their local representatives, which would assist state leadership in evaluating the effectiveness of these representatives in fulfilling their roles.
Abdullah further stated that this feedback mechanism aligns with the Sarawak government’s initiative to create a performance report card for each representative, ensuring their services meet the community’s needs. He assured the public that the confidentiality of the information shared with UKAS would be maintained, as officers are committed to upholding integrity in their duties, irrespective of political affiliations.
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of community awareness regarding government actions, encouraging citizens to independently assess the sincerity and dedication of the Sarawak administration.
