Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC), gave a five-point recommendation to the 20th Southeast Asia Red Cross & Red Crescent Leaders Meeting which was officially kicked off this morning at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
The recommendation included continued capacity building for operational team, volunteers and youth to respond to changing humanitarian situations, and strengthening of the participation of relevant partners by increasing close cooperation with the government, sub-national officials, the private sector and community people to mobilise resources, provide humanitarian donations and public health education.
Samdech Kittiprittpundit encouraged continued youth capacity building, skill development and labour networking by empowering young people to participate in decision-making and creation of new ideas and methods to promote the sustainability of young humanitarian forces.
Joint establishment of a common resolution mechanism toward the achievement of the 2030 strategy of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the strategy of each National Societies, and joint creation of an eco-friendly society through tree planting campaigns are also part of the recommendation.
The 20th Southeast Asia Red Cross & Red Crescent Leaders Meeting and 2nd Youth Forum are taking place from Sept. 17 to 22.
Cambodian Permanent Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Vongsey Vissoth, Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, who represented the Royal Government of Cambodia; H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN; Mrs. Kathryn Clarkson, Head of IFRC Country Cluster Delegation for Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam; Mr. Juan Pedro Schaerer, Head of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)’s Regional Delegation in Bangkok; delegations of leaders and youth of the 11 National Red Cross Societies in Southeast Asia were present at the official opening ceremony of the 20th Southeast Asia Red Cross & Red Crescent Leaders Meeting.
