Sabah’s Sovereignty In Malaysia Will Be Defended – Chief Minister

KOTA KINABALU, The Sabah government fully supports the federal government’s firm stand in defending the country’s sovereignty and dismissing any demand over Sabah, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said as Sabahans have chosen to jointly form the Malaysia Federation through the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), any external claims against the state of Sabah will not be recognised at all by the people.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has made Malaysia’s stand clear, which is similar to our stand all this while,” he said in a statement here today.

On July 29, the Foreign Ministry reiterated the government’s long-standing position that Sabah has always been an integral part of Malaysia and any claims on Sabah will not be recognised.

The ministry, also known as Wisma Putra, said in a statement that it is aware of a video circulating on social media containing baseless and misleading content that questions the sovereignty of Sabah as an integral part of Malaysia.

Hajiji said the state gov
ernment also fully supported Wisma Putra’s action and statement that the viral video contained baseless and misleading content.

“We are confident that the Foreign Ministry will be able to investigate the matter thoroughly in cooperation with the relevant ministries and agencies,” he said.

He also reiterated that Sabah has always been an integral part of Malaysia and that the United Nations and the international community have recognised Sabah as part of this country since the formation of the Malaysia Federation on Sept 16, 1963.
