Sabah KBS to replace decrepit sports equipment, facilities

KOTA KINABALU, Sabah’s Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) has committed to replacing the state’s outdated and worn-out sports equipment and facilities, not only involving gymnastics but also other sports, said Minister Datuk Ellron Angin.

“Come talk to us. We will replace what we can including (sports equipment, facilities) for other sports, not just gymnastics. We work as a team, come and tell us what is broken, maybe we can do something,” he said here today.

Bernama reported that Sabah gymnasts remain spirited in the effort to bring home medals for the state at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXI) despite the constraints of using equipment and facilities that are over 20 years old, especially at the gymnastics hall at Likas Sports Complex.

Ellron said his ministry understands the need to provide updated sports equipment and facilities for Sabah athletes to undergo training to ensure safety.

“The facilities must be adapted to specific sports. There are facilities for all, but also those specifically for
certain sports. We should deal with this together because it is a necessity.

“Without this facility, it would be difficult for us to advance in sports. Today with sophisticated facilities, we can improve performance. We do not deny that. This is a necessity, not an option,” he explained.
