Rebel killed, firearms seized in Camarines Sur clash

LEGAZPI CITY: A combatant of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed during an encounter with government troopers in Barangay Tagpocol, San Fernando town, Camarines Sur province on Friday.

Three M16 rifles, two M653 rifles, and an M203 grenade launcher were also seized after the clash, the military reported on Saturday.

Maj. Frank Roldan, 9th Infantry Division Public Affairs Office chief, identified the slain rebel as Jerrymie Pustillos, alias “Russel,” a member of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla, Platun 3, Sub-Regional Committee 4 operating in the 2nd District of Camarines Sur.

“The encounter happened after our troops responded to the reports of residents about an extortion conducted in the area by the NPA members,” Roldan said.
