Queen donates S$15,000 to Girl Guides Singapore

SINGAPORE, Oct 27 (Bernama) — Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah today graciously donated S$15,000 to the Girl Guides Association of Singapore on the third day of Her Majesty’s state visit to the republic.

Tunku Azizah presented a replica cheque in the amount to Girl Guides Singapore president Dr Seetha Subbiah when she visited the Girl Guides headquarters at Bishan Street 14, here.

During every state visit, Her Majesty will donate to selected organisations or charities.

At the presentation ceremony, Tunku Azizah expressed hope that the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia and Girl Guides Singapore would work together to organise more exchange programmes.

“I have been involved in the Girl Guides Movement for more than 50 years, I was its president and deputy president…if Girl Guides were to work together they could do more good for the society,” said Tunku Azizah who is the Royal Patron of the Friends of Asia Pacific World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

Also present at the event was her daughter Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Afzan Aminah Hafizatullah.

On arrival, the Queen was greeted by Dr Seetha while a choir comprising Girl Guides from Henry Park Primary School and Pasir Ris Crest Secondary School sang a welcoming song “Selamat Datang” for the royal visitor.

Tunku Azizah spent over half an hour at the headquarters mingling with Singapore Girl Guide members before making her departure at 5pm.

Earlier in the day, Tunku Azizah visited the National Library and the National Museum of Singapore.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Tunku Azizah arrived here Tuesday for a state visit, which ends tomorrow.

The visit reflects the close bilateral ties between Malaysia and Singapore which were established 57 years ago.
