Proposal For Feasibility Study On Use Of Nuclear Energy Yet To Be Finalised – Fadillah

KUALA LUMPUR, The proposal to carry out a study on the feasibility of using nuclear energy in Malaysia as part of the country’s energy transition efforts has not been finalised, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said part of the study that will be done is about feasibility, with the initial stage looking into whether nuclear energy is appropriate or not to be implemented in Malaysia.

“(The implementation of the study) has not been decided yet, only a proposal to carry out the study,” he said after a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a new Hanan Tower Building at the Hanan Headquarters, Kundang Industrial Park, in Rawang here today.

He said this when asked about the allocation of more than RM300 million under the National Energy Transition Facility Fund announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when tabling Budget 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat last Oct 18.

Anwar said the allocation was to meet the objectives of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) toward
s reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions as early as 2050.

Meanwhile, regarding the Kenyir Hydro Hybrid Floating Solar Farm project in Terengganu, Fadillah said it was a pilot project involving Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Petronas.
