LEGAZPI CITY – The Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Albay is set to deploy a water tanker and a food truck to the towns affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami) on Thursday.
In an interview, Rosiedel Rivero, PRC-Albay chapter administrator, said the tanker can produce 10,000 liters of clean, potable water daily.
“We will go to Libon today with the water tanker as one of the identified needs during the assessment. We will make sure that the evacuees will have safe drinking water. Also, our ambulances are stationed in the area,” Rivero said.
She said the water tanker will also go around the towns of Polangui, Guinobatan, and Oas.
Rivero said the PRC has also started providing food through its Hot Meals on Wheels to stranded passengers in the Tabaco City Port, as well as put up first-aid stations and welfare desks. The food truck will then go around the towns to provide meals to the residents.
“We will continue to cook every day for the affected populations but also responders. The
services provided by PRC are open for all, the water and the hot meals,” she added.
Rivero said PRC vehicular assets from the central office are also coming to assist the affected residents in Camarines Sur and Naga City.
“They will go to Camarines Sur first to assist, they can also go here in Albay to also provide interventions and assistance,” she said.
The Albay Public Safety Emergency Management Office (APSEMO) also provided two water tankers to the 3rd District of Albay, which can can provide 8,000 and 12,000 liters of clean water, according to APSEMO acting chief Dante Baclao.
“We are also preparing the water filtration machine that will go around as per requests by different local chief executives,” he said in an interview.
Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defense in Bicol (OCD 5) recorded 941 houses damaged by the weather disturbance in the provinces of Albay, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Camarines Norte, 84 of which are totally damaged, while 857 are partially damaged.

l roads and bridges were affected by “Kristine,” 193 of which are not passable to all types of vehicles, 74 are not passable to light vehicles, 22 are only one-lane passable, and three are passable to light vehicles only.
Likewise, 61 power interruptions and outages were reported by 44 local government units in the Bicol region, and nine LGUs also reported water supply interruptions.
