Manila: A popular barbecue fastfood restaurant chain on Monday launched a campaign that celebrates local food as cornerstone of Filipino culture.

Mang Inasal president Mike Castro said the “Love the Flavors, Love the Philippines” campaign is an initiative that supports the Department of Tourism’s gastronomy tourism efforts.

“Indeed, food is more than just a meal – it’s a bridge that connects us to each other, and Mang Inasal is grateful to play a role in that connection,” Castro said.

He said Mang Inasal has become a must-try experience for tourists who enjoy the authentic taste of popular Filipino food such as grilled chicken and pork, pancit palabok and halo-halo, among others.

DOT Assistant Secretary Gissela Marie Quisumbing said gastronomy plays an important role in the promotion of Filipino culture so the agency partners with Filipino cuisine providers impacting travelers.

“Food tells about our rich history and diverse heritage, as our Filipino food is distinctively unique as it draws inspiration fr
om several influences,” she said.

Apart from culture appreciation, Quisumbing said gastronomy tourism also promotes economic development and support for local farmers providing the ingredients of Filipino cuisines.

As part of World Tourism Week, Mang Inasal offers halo-halo with regular purchase from their menu from Sept. 23 to 27.
