PERLIS CONTINGENT 90 PCT READY FOR SUKMA 2024


KANGAR, The Perlis Contingent, also known as the SIMBA Squad 2024, is 90 per cent ready for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para SUKMA this year, scheduled to be held in Sarawak in August.

Perlis Sports Council (MSNPs) director, Mohd Azraai Zain Tusimin said the preparations include the physical and mental aspects of the athletes as well as other technical aspects, while training continues appropriately to prevent last-minute injuries.

‘Alhamdulillah, with 57 days remaining (from June 21), our SIMBA Squad 2024 is in the final phase (of preparation). However, training will continue at an appropriate level to avoid last-minute injuries, and it is expected that the athletes will peak in performance at the Games, Insya-Allah,’ he told Bernama.

Elaborating further, Mohd Azraai Zain said a total of 288 athletes from Perlis will participate in the sports extravaganza, competing in 28 types of sports, including athletics, weightlifting, taekwondo, silat, sailing and golf, out of the 37 sports to be contested in SU
KMA 2024.

He added the SIMBA Squad 2024 aim to bring home 10 gold medals, with expectations to dominate the gold medal tally in weightlifting, taekwondo and athletics, while also hoping for potential gold medals in sailing, silat, golf and chess.

Meanwhile, Perlis Youth Development and Sports Advancement Committee chairman, Wan Zikri Afthar Ishak said that he is optimistic that Perlis athletes will have a good outing at the Games.
