Perhilitan Captures Sun Bear, Black Panther In Kuala Krai And Gua Musang.

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) captured a sun bear and a black panther yesterday. State Perhilitan director Mohamad Hafid Rohani reported that the sun bear was captured in Kampung Sungai Pas, Kuala Krai, while the black panther was apprehended at a plantation in Kuala Koh, Gua Musang.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the captures were made following complaints from villagers about a sun bear wandering into their farms and a panther allegedly harming cattle in the plantation area. The animals were caught in traps set up at their respective locations, providing relief to local residents by preventing further losses from crop destruction and property damage.

Mohamad Hafid stated that the wild animals would be relocated to a more suitable and safe habitat soon. He also advised residents, particularly smallholders, to take mitigation measures, such as not visiting orchards alone and avoiding farm areas at night, to reduce incidents involving sun bears and
black panthers.

He noted that capturing and relocating the animals were not long-term solutions, as the orchards were near a permanent forest reserve, the original habitat for the wildlife. The public is urged to exercise caution if they encounter wild animals and not to engage in actions that could compromise their safety.

Complaints and information regarding wildlife can be directed to Perhilitan via 1-800-88-5151 or through e-complaints on the website www.wildlife.gov.my.
