Perak focuses on recognising internet as third utility

IPOH, Feb 3 — Perak is set to focus on strengthening the policy of making internet connectivity as the third utility after water and electricity, this year.

State Youth, Sports, Communications and Multimedia Committee chairman Khairul Shahril Mohamed said the policy had been introduced but had not been fully implemented as it needed to take into account the involvement of several relevant parties.

He said the strengthening of the policy was in line with the construction of 105 new telecommunication substations under the National Digital Network (JENDELA) initiative.

“This year, we are more focused on implementing this policy to the maximum.

“I am very confident in this policy because there is close cooperation between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Digital Perak, local authorities (PBT) and Land and Mines Office as well as very encouraging response from the public,” he told reporters here today.
