PCG lifts sea travel between Northern Samar, Sorsogon

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) lifted on Monday the temporary suspension of sea travel between Northern Samar and Sorsogon as Tropical Storm ‘Enteng’ moved farther from Eastern Visayas.

In a notice to mariners issued 11 a.m., the PCG allowed the resumption of operation of sea vessels and watercraft plying between the two islands.

‘All trips of vessels from Allen, Northern Samar, bound for Matnog, Sorsogon, are resumed to their normal operation,’ the PCG Northern Samar station said.

According to reports reaching the Office of Civil Defense regional office, the travel suspension stranded six roll-on/roll-off ships, 1,439 passengers, and 286 vehicles in Northern Samar.

Allen town is the region’s exit point to Luzon for travelers of the country’s nautical highway.

Trips between the islands of Luzon and Samar have been suspended since early Sunday as the state weather bureau placed Sorsogon and Northern Samar provinces under storm warning signals due to the weather disturbance.

Meanwhile, floods have been
reported in the towns of Rosario, Lope de Vega, Mapanas, Lavezares, Catubig, Laoang, San Roque, and several other areas in the province.

The Philippine National Police regional office initially reported that widespread floods forced 6,431 individuals to take shelter in evacuation centers in Northern Samar.

Landslides have been reported in Sampao village in Almeria, Biliran; Talustusan village in Naval Biliran; Sto. Niño village in Biri, Northern Samar; and Londres village in Allen, Northern Samar.

‘In response to the storm, some 23,000 boxes of prepositioned family food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development are ready for augmentation across Northern Samar, with an additional 13,000 boxes currently being delivered as replenishment to designated warehouses,’ the provincial government said in a statement on Monday.

The provincial government continues to monitor the situation, and is still consolidating reports from the 24 towns of the province.
