Paralympic Games : Chance For Mohamad Yusof Hafizi R To Enter Final – Johari

KUALA LUMPUR, National para cyclist, Mohamad Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin has the potential to advance to the men’s C1 (physical disability) 3,000 metre (m) pursuit final if he is able to repeat the time he set during the previous training session.

National cycling squad head coach, Johari Mohd Nayan, said Mohamad Yusof Hafizi once recorded a time of 3 minutes 53 seconds (s), thereby surpassing his personal best of 3:55.612s at the 2023 World Championships in Glasgow.

“If Mohamad Yusof Hafizi can do under 3:53s there is a good chance for the final, because during training he was able to beat his previous personal record.

“However, the reality is that the timing was recorded under sedate environment but on the day of the competition day (Paris 2024) it is difficult for us to predict,” he told reporters during the visit of the Head of the Malaysian Contingent to the 2024 Paralympic Games Datuk R Subramaniam to the cycling squad camp here, today.

He said, if the 26-year-old rider brings home a medal in his seco
nd appearance after Tokyo 2020, it is a bonus considering the fierce competition of riders from China and the United States at the event held at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome.

Johari said the Paris 2024 stage is actually seen as a field to build the maturity of the athlete from Kuala Kangsar so that he could challenge for a medal position at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
