KUCHING, Two years ago, Selangor’s Ahmad Nazri Hamzah decided to give bowling a try.
And he’s glad he did that because, today, he is the proud owner of a gold medal after winning the TPB8 (physical impairment) category at the 2024 Malaysia Para Games (Para SUKMA) here.
“Actually, I am a member of the national (Malaysian Wheelchair Basketball Federation) team. When wheelchair basketball was not contested in the 2022 edition of Para SUKMA, I decided to give bowling a try.
“Of course, being new to the game, I did not win anything in 2022. But this time, although I was focused, I still can’t believe I got the gold medal as I had to take on more experienced para-bowlers,’ he said.
Ahmad Nazri knocked down 987 pins to clinch gold while Selangor’s Faizal Roslan (942 pinfalls) took silver and Sarawak’s Alim Sohai (925 pinfalls) settled for bronze.
Meanwhile, in the TPB4 (intellectual impairment) category, Pahang’s Muhammad Hadwan Hilman Mohd Nor Hisham bagged the gold medal while Sarawakians Abg Yahya Abg Azhar
and Muhammad Zul Adly Majeni took silver and bronze respectively.
Bowling offers 20 gold medals at the 2024 Para SUKMA.
