Pahang Has Potential To Groom Leaders In Various Fields – Johari

KUANTAN, Pahang has the potential to produce capable leaders across various sectors, encompassing all aspects, says Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

He attributed this to the numerous incentives and policies implemented by the state government, including the Akademi Menara Gading (AMG) programme, which was initiated by the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

“I believe this is a good start, and we are grateful to the Sultan, who is not only giving his time but also providing financial support to ensure that the people of Pahang, especially the ‘asnaf’ (the poor) and those in need, are not left behind.

‘I think this is something that society must emulate, and we should lend our support.

‘Pahang should become a breeding ground for leaders, not only in politics but also in industries such as agriculture and others,’ he told reporters after launching the Akademi Menara Gading 2.0 YASA-Next Generation Accelerator Programme (AMG Next-Gen) at Universiti Malaysia P
ahang Al-Sultan Abdullah, Gambang, today.

The AMG, introduced in 1999, is organised and fully funded by the Al-Sultan Abdullah Foundation (YASA), formerly known as the Istana Abdulaziz Foundation, in collaboration with public universities. The programme aims to assist underprivileged students, orphans, and Orang Asli from the state in achieving academic excellence.

Now in its second edition, AMG will collaborate with UMPSA, focusing on four main objectives: academic excellence, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); holistic human capital development; nurturing students with interpersonal skills; and promoting physical and mental well-being.

Meanwhile, addressing the possibility of a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Johari said that an official notice for such a motion could be submitted at any time, even during an ongoing Parliament session.

‘To make a no-confidence motion happen, the proposal must be sent to me. So far, as of today, O
ct 2, I haven’t received anything. It can be sent at any time, even when Parliament is in session. There’s no specific time frame for this.

‘If they wish to submit it today, there’s no problem. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that the motion will be accepted. The Speaker will first study it. On whether it is justified or not, the Speaker has the final authority,’ he said.
