Pact signed to bring PhilSys registration services to OFWs

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to bring Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) registration services to returning and departing overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). In a statement on Wednesday, the PSA said the MOA enables the PSA to co-locate at the DMW office in Mandaluyong, along with its sub-department and agencies, regional offices and one-stop service centers for OFWs nationwide. Through the colocation sites, OFWs can register to PhilSys; claim their ePhilID, an electronic counterpart of the Philippine identification; relay queries to the assigned personnel from PSA and DMW; and obtain PhilSys-related information materials. The partnership is part of the ongoing efforts to register the last mile of the population. PSA data showed that as of July 2023, 80.1 million Filipinos have already registered with PhilSys. ‘On behalf of the PSA, I would like to extend my gratitude to the DMW for this collaboration to make PhilSys services more accessible to our OFWs,’ PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa said. ‘Through this joint effort, we look forward to registering OFWs and providing them the benefits of being PhilSys-registered.’ The MOA was signed last June 29 by Mapa, also the National Statistician and Civil Registrar General, and DMW Secretary Maria Susana Ople in the presence of DMW Undersecretary for Finance and Internal Management Maria Anthonette Velasco-Allones and PhilSys Registry Office (PRO) officer-in-charge Deputy National Statistician Fred Sollesta
