P37-M smuggled marijuana seized in Manila port


MANILA: Smuggled dried kush (pure marijuana) worth PHP37.1 million was seized in Port Area, Manila recently, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported on Sunday.

The BOC said physical examination and X-ray scanning led to the discovery of six boxes of marijuana with a total weight of 30.9 kilos on Friday.

Customs chief Bien Rubio said they have been receiving tips about possible shipments of marijuana from Thailand.

‘This latest operation shows the relentlessness and the audacity of these criminals in thinking they can get away with smuggling this huge amount of illicit drugs,’ Rubio said in a press release.

The shipment was inspected at the designated examination area of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Manila International Container Port and witnessed by the Enforcement and Security Service, Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force, Philippine Coast Guard, Environmental Protection and Compliance Division, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Without disclosing names, Rubio said the shipment
‘s consignees, senders and recipients will face charges.
