New hanging bridge in Albay town boosts locals’ livelihood, safety

LEGAZPI CITY: The newly-opened hanging bridge in Albay’s 3rd District worth PHP5 million is expected to improve the lives of residents in different barangays, providing students, teachers, and farmers easier and safe access to schools and markets.

In a phone interview on Wednesday, Albay 3rd District Rep. Fernando Cabredo said the project which was funded by the General Appropriations Act of 2023 started May last year and was recently completed.

“The newly constructed hanging bridge connecting Barangay San Jose of Oas town and Barangay Paulba in Ligao City is set to bring many opportunities to the two communities. The project has been given top priority by the Marcos administration. It will improve the connectivity and accessibility of these barangays. With this new infrastructure in place, the residents can now enjoy a smoother and safer commute, allowing them to take advantage of new opportunities for growth and development,” he said.

Cabredo said the 119.5-kilometer bridge will ensure the safety of resi
dents who cross the river on foot or a motorcycle.

San Jose barangay captain Virgilio Camu Sr. thanked Cabredo for the long-awaited hanging bridge.

“Andyan na, tapos na ang hanging bridge sa barangay ko. Ang mga residente, estudyante hindi na po maga sakripisyo sa oras ng pag eskwela (There it is, the hanging bridge in my barangay is finished. Residents, students will no longer make sacrifices when it’s time to go to school),” he said in a recorded video.

Paulba barangay captain Jona Penalosa was pleased that the hanging bridge did not take so long to be finished.

“Dakol po ang makikinabang ng proyekto na to. Rep. Cabredo, maraming salamat po sa mga tulong mo sa mga barangay (Many will benefit from this project. Rep. Cabredo, thank you very much for your help to the barangays),” Penalosa said.

Cabredo said based on their records, at least four hanging bridges in Oas and Ligao City that have been completed under the Marcos administration are now being used and benefiting residents.
