NCAA: Knights stun Blazers; Chiefs end slump


Manila: Colegio de San Juan de Letran played steadier in the fourth quarter to prevail over College of Saint Benilde, 71-69, in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 100 men’s basketball tournament at Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Sunday.

Vince Cuajo sank five triples to finish with 20 points, while Sherick Estrada contributed 17 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block as Letran snapped CSB’s four-game streak to join University of Perpetual Help and San Beda University in third place at 3-2.

Paolo Javillonar added 13 points and three rebounds while Nat Montecillo and Kibe Monje chipped in eight points apiece for the Knights, who took the first quarter, 20-14 and padded the lead to 27-16.

CSB remained on top at 4-1 followed by Mapua University at 3-1.

ers, who even led at 60-46.

In the other game, Arellano University finally ended a four-game slump with an 87-73 win over slumping San Sebastian College-Recoletos.

Sorsogon pride Jeadan Ongotan delivered 21 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Chiefs, who posted their biggest lead at 77-60.

Lorenz Capulong had 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks followed by Cyril Hernal with 11 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals.

Ameer Aguilar topscored with 11 points for the Stags, who took their third straight loss and fell into a tie with the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals at 2-3.
