NBI nabs two Chinese nationals in Rizal for human trafficking

Manila: Two foreign nationals have been arrested in a Taytay, Rizal suburb for human trafficking, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said Monday.

In a statement, the NBI said Chinese nationals Wang Kun and Liu Xiao Xiao were arrested while a third person, named by complainants as Ma Shang Lai, remains at large and was not in the premises when the raid was conducted at a residential house in Greenwoods Village last Oct. 16.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago said the two are charged for violation of RA 9208 (Anti Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003).

The NBI Criminal Intelligence Division (NBI-CRID) received the complaint from a certain Jinwen Yang that his friend, Malaysian national Siaw Ping Lim, is being held against her will and is trafficked by her Chinese employer, Lai.

The employer refused to give back Lim’s passport, preventing her plans to leave or escape from her employer’s place.

According to the NBI, Lai operates an online scamming enterprise inside the raided house, employing other call cente
r employees, all foreigners, who are similarly situated as that of the victim.

They were housed in the residential building and not allowed to go out of the premises.

The NBI said four individuals were rescued and brought to the office of CRID for proper identification procedures.
