Murder suspect nabbed while getting police clearance in Antipolo

CALAMBA CITY: Antipolo City police arrested a murder suspect with an outstanding arrest warrant while he was applying for a national police clearance on Wednesday afternoon.

Col. Felipe Maraggun, Rizal Provincial Police Office (RPPO) chief, told reporters Thursday that “Ben”, 50, of San Roque, Antipolo City, was securing a police clearance when the database showed an active warrant for his arrest.

Maraggun said the suspect has been evading authorities since 2021. The Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Malolos, Bulacan issued the arrest order against “Ben” on Nov. 9, 2021, for murder, with no bail recommended.

Records showed that the fugitive had been hiding in Antipolo City since 2021 after allegedly killing his live-in partner in Bulacan.

The suspect is now in the custody of the Antipolo City Police Station, where authorities will process and address his case.

‘The arrest of the suspect underscores the effectiveness of the National Police Clearance System, which helps us identify individuals evading the law,
‘ Maraggun said. ‘We remain committed to maintaining peace and order in the province.”
