MOTOGP CONCERT TO CELEBRATE SIC’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY

SEPANG, The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) will host a concert in conjunction with the 2024 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) on Nov 1 to 3, here.

SIC chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif said the concert, which is expected to be enlivened by the presence of local and foreign artists, is part of the activities organised by his team to jazz up the 25th anniversary celebration of the country’s iconic circuit.

“We will announce the list of artists involved and it is hoped that this year’s Malaysian MotoGP race will proceed smoothly,” he told reporters at the SIC Ramadan Iftar ceremony here last night.

Meanwhile, Azhan Shafriman said reception to the Malaysian MotoGP ticket sales this season was quite encouraging with early sales picking up strongly compared to the same period last year.

In other developments, he is optimistic that the move by the owner of Formula One (F1), Liberty Media of the United States, which agreed to buy MotoGP in a deal worth around US$4.5 billion (RM21.26 billio
n) from the original owner Dorna, last Monday, will boost the marketing of the world’s leading motorcycle race.

“We can see there have been changes in F1 since Liberty Media took over (in 2017) ownership from them, I hope MotoGP’s marketing strategy becomes more interesting in the future,” he said.

In a statement, MotoGP said Liberty Media will acquire an approximately 86 per cent stake while Dorna, based in Spain, retains a 14 per cent equity stake in the business.
