MMEA and YFBM Collaborate to Support Mersing’s Maritime Community During Monsoon Season.

Mersing: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), in collaboration with the Food Bank Malaysia Foundation (YFBM), has extended support to the maritime community in Mersing by providing food aid and essential supplies to help them face the challenges of the monsoon season through the ‘Susur Pulau’ Monsoon Assistance Programme 2024, recently. Mersing Maritime Zone director Maritime Commander Suhaizan Saadin said that for the programme, held from Oct 27-30, MMEA deployed two patrol vessels and two Perkasa boats to deliver aid to 108 recipients from the maritime community, consisting of fishermen and residents of Pulau Pemanggil, Pulau Aur, and Pulau Tinggi.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, in addition to logistical support, MMEA also conducted sea safety awareness briefings for island residents as a preventive measure against accidents and emergencies. This programme is also an important platform for MMEA in strengthening solidarity and connection with the community, especially the maritime community,
Suhaizan said in a statement today.

Suhaizan further explained that the programme was a proactive step towards enhancing the quality of life for the maritime community, aligning with MMEA’s aspirations to positively impact society. MMEA and YFBM hope that this initiative will spark more strategic partnerships in the future to protect and improve the wellbeing of the maritime community, he added.

The programme also included the participation of 22 individuals, including YFBM chief executive officer Johan Halid.
