MEDIKK to discuss streamlining charges, fees for digital infrastructure, facilities

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 — A study on charges and service fees relating to the construction of digital infrastructure and facilities imposed by government agencies and local authorities is among the main agenda to be discussed at the Communications and Creative Industry Digital Economy Council (MEDIKK) today.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said through the discussions, the government hoped the different charges and fees in each state could be streamlined.

He said the other agenda to be discussed in the first MEDIKK meeting is the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) progress report and the digital economy initiative implementation report.

“We want to ensure the implementation of the programmes could proceed as efficiently as possible,” he told a media conference before chairing the meeting here today.

He said other agendas included considering the Point of Presence (PoP) provision project and the expansion of RIUH Keluarga Malaysia expedition programme.

He said the setting up of the Malaysian Family community, Cyber Security Empowerment programme (SiberKASA) as well as the Digital Economy Realisation Programme (PRIME); Digital Entrepreneurship at state level (MYNIC) would also be discussed.

MEDIKK is a platform linking KKMM and state governments via regular meetings to discuss matters relating to KKMM portfolio namely information, creative industry, telecommunicationn and the digital economy.

Chaired by Annuar, the membership of MEDIKK comprised the related state executive councillors representatives, while the member for Federal Territories is Federal Territories Minister.

The establishment of the council was also in line with the objective of KKMM to provide comprehensive and inclusive communication infrastructure for the development of the digital economy, empower information technology, and as a catalyst for the creative content industry as well as expansion of strategic delivery and dissemination of information
