Malaysia Wins Bronze And Four ‘Medallion For Excellence’ Awards At Worldskills Competition

LYON, Malaysia concluded the WorldSkills Competition (WSC 2024) with an outstanding performance, securing one bronze medal and four Medallion for Excellence awards in the prestigious event.

In the Beauty Therapy category, Wong Hsun Wei won the bronze medal and was named ‘Best of Nation’ at the WSC 2024 closing ceremony and medal presentation held at Groupama Stadium here on Sunday (Sept 15).

The four Medallion for Excellence recipients include Muhammad Nasran Ahmad in the Hairdressing category and Ahmad Muizuddin Mohd Razi in the Bricklaying category.

The other two recipients are Muhammad Hakimi Abu Bakar in Electrical Installations and Stephen Sim Shan Siong in the IT Software Solutions for Business category.

Speaking to Bernama, Wong expressed her joy in representing Malaysia on the international stage.

‘I am thrilled and grateful to my teachers for taking care of me and bringing me to participate in many competitions,’ she said.

Muhammad Nasran described his achievement at WSC as a proud moment, hav
ing faced many highly skilled participants from other countries.

‘Thank you to my parents, all the experts and teachers for their support.

‘Although I received only the Medallion for Excellence, I feel very grateful because it is difficult to achieve at the international level,’ he said.

The WSC 2024, held from Sept 10 to 15, attracted 1,400 competitors from more than 70 countries and regions to compete in 62 skill categories.

Malaysia fielded 15 highly skilled youths in 14 categories, including Robot System Integration, IT Software Solutions for Business, Heavy Vehicle Technology, and Digital Construction.

The government has provided special cash incentives for winners at WSC in Lyon, with a gold medal worth RM40,000, silver RM20,000, bronze RM10,000, and Medallion for Excellence RM4,000.

The special incentives are a sign of support, encouragement and motivation in the pursuit of excellence at WSC 2024.

WSC is held every two years to enhance the skills and competence of world-class youth and workers.
WSC 2026 will be held in Shanghai.
