Malaysia To Collaborate With Various Stakeholders In Pursuit Of UHC and SDG 2030

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia is committed to collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure that no one is left behind in its pursuit towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said that this synergistic partnership will involve policymakers, healthcare providers, civil society organisations and the private sector.

“Malaysia is implementing comprehensive health reforms focused on primary healthcare delivery, as well as promotive and preventive health, sustainable financing and strengthening human resources, as outlined in our Health White Paper.

“The reforms also prioritize healthcare digitalisation and improved overall governance in healthcare, addressing challenges such as the threat of climate change,” he said in the country’s statement at the World Health Organisation (WHO) 75th Regional Committee Meeting for the Western Pacific Region (WPRCM) in Manila, Philippines, yesterday.

In this regard, he highlighted the si
gnificant progress achieved in rolling out cloud-based Electronic Medical Records (EMR) across government health facilities, with the goal of establishing a National Electronic Health Records (EHR) system as the backbone of Malaysia’s digital health transformation.

To combat the epidemic of tobacco smoking and e-cigarette use in Malaysia, Dzulkefly expressed optimism that the recently enacted Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act will significantly bolster these efforts.

He further noted that the new legislation aligns with the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), reinforcing Malaysia’s measures to promote a healthier environment and lifestyle for all.

“We also look forward to collaborating to ensure that the Lung Health Resolution, which we unveiled at the World Cancer Congress in September, is adopted as a global health agenda at the next World Health Assembly,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health in a statement today, said the 75th WPRCM which will be held from Oct 21
to 25, aims to discuss emerging issues, challenges and barriers, receive new proposals or recommendations related to universal health policy, while developing appropriate strategies and solutions.
