MAIWP recognises, fetes outstanding students

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) — A total of 39 students from Darul Kifayah under the supervision of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) received recognition for their excellent achievements in academic and co-curricular fields in a ceremony today.

 

MAIWP chairman Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar said MAIWP saw quality education as a transform the families of zakat recipients or ‘asnaf’, as well as those from the B40 target group.

 

“It also plays a big role in helping asnaf children get access to holistic education,” he said when speaking at the MAIWP Darul Kifayah Students Academic Excellence Awards Ceremony here, today.

 

 

 

Apart from the students, the ‘Outstanding Alumni’ award was also given to two former students, namely University of Technology MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam senior lecturer in Chemistry, Ts Siti Rafidah Ab Rashid, and Muhammad Amar Mazlan, who is a master’s degree student at the International Islamic University (UIAM).

 

Rafidah when met said she was grateful to MAIWP for helping her from her schooling days all the way until university.

 

“MAIWP really cares about the education aspect. When I got an offer to continue my studies, they financed and covered all my expenses,” she said.

 

 

 

Meanwhile, Muhammad Amar said MAIWP had helped a lot in terms of finances, education and in determining his career path.

 

“Every year I received help from MAIWP when I was a student, and even now, MAIWP is still funding me to continue my master’s degree.

 

“They (MAIWP) really cherish students who wish to do further studies and will provide full assistance,” he said.

 

Throughout this year, MAIWP has spent RM114 million in zakat funds to help children from asnaf families in schools and higher education institutions.

 

“A total of RM30 million has been spent for general school assistance for 34,546 students, almost RM40 million for assistance to Higher Education Institutions, and as of now, MAIWP has 11 educational institutions ranging from daycare to higher education,” MAIWP said in a statement.
