Main Road To UMS Teaching Hospital Costing Over RM18 Mln Completed

The construction of the 1.5-kilometre (km) main road leading to Universiti Malaysia Sabah Teaching Hospital costing RM18.94 million has been completed on July 1, Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said.

He added that the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) project was managed by the Public Works Department (JKR), with the cooperation of the Sabah JKR via open tender and began on March 15, 2021.

“The project was completed on time and I congratulate the contractor and all related departments and agencies for completing the project that will benefit motorists and the hospital,’ he told reporters after handing over the project to MOHE, who was represented by its deputy minister, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, who is Sepaggar MP, in the presence of Sabah deputy chief minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya and Chairman of UMS board of directors, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan. He added that monitoring work will be done if the area around the road faces any problems so that immediate action will be taken.

Nanta
had earlier highlighted the various challenges faced by the project during his speech, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the movement control order, along with the various utility companies involved, such as Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, Telekom Malaysia, the Sabah Water Department and the hospital’s internal utilities, that indirectly impacted the project’s date of completion.

‘The construction of the project is aimed at boosting the people’s accessibility to health facilities with the new road from UMS to Jalan Yayasan-Kampung Kibagu, which will ease traffic congestion,’ he added.
