Mahkota By-election: PH Steps Up Campaign To Raise Voter Awareness

KLUANG, Pakatan Harapan (PH) is actively campaigning to promote voter awareness to fulfil their obligations in the Mahkota state by-election on Sept 28.

Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi who is the PH Kluang coordinator for the by-election, said that there is a small number of residents who are unaware that the by-election is taking place, causing their machinery to help voters check their polling stations, apart from helping to publicise the by-election.

Asked about non-Malay voters’ acceptance of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah who is representing the Unity government in the by-election, Wong said it was good.

“(Although) the feedback is good, but we still need to ensure the turnout is also good. We hope the turnout can hit above 60 and 70. But this is a by-election and it is very difficult to get 70 per cent,” she said when met at a Lantern Festival at Che Luan Khor Kluang Moral Uplifting Association here, yesterday.

Also present was Syed Hussien who is also Kluang UMNO Youth chief.

Be
sides, Wong said there was no need for her to comment on the opposition’s allegations that tried to discredit DAP in the by-election, because she believed that the issue was rhetorical and only played by those who lacked political capital.

The Mahkota state by-election is seeing a straight fight between Syed Hussien and Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.

It was held following the death of incumbent Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on August 2 while receiving treatment at Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital here.
