MACC Confirms Meeting Maszlee In 1BestariNet Probe

KUALA LUMPUR, The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed that it met with former Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik to gather more information regarding the investigation into the 1BestariNet project.

According to a source, the meeting took place last week.

“The investigation is still ongoing, including MACC’s efforts to obtain related documents and statements from several individuals,” the source told Bernama.

When contacted, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the meeting but declined to provide further details.

Previously, Azam said that the case investigation focused on whether the data supply for 8,000 schools nationwide adhered to the contract specifications.

On Sept 6, media reports highlighted Maszlee’s statement that the 1BestariNet issue was one of the factors that led to his resignation as Minister of Education in January 2020.

The MACC initiated the investigation into the project on Sept 4, focusing on the payment claims related to the Ministry of Education’s
1BestariNet service tender worth RM4 billion, which was awarded to YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YTL) in 2011.
