LKIM Aims For 32,000 Fishing Boat Owners To Register With MyIsytihar App By End Of 2025


MANJUNG, The Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) aims to have all fishing boat owners nationwide register with the MyIsytihar LKIM application by the end of 2025.

Its chairman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said LKIM is intensifying its efforts to ensure 32,000 fishing boat owners download the application and that digitisation efforts within the industry are effectively implemented.

He said that, as of August this year, LKIM had registered 50 per cent of boat owners, or 16,000 individuals, since the application was launched two years ago.

‘We are confident that the number (of registered users) will continue to increase due to the efforts of LKIM state offices. We aim for all boat owners to use the application by the end of 2025 at the latest.

‘LKIM wants fishermen to use the facilities provided to facilitate self-declarations through smartphones, without being constrained by the operating hours of fish declaration and landing centres,’ he told a press conference here today.

ding the ‘Ramah Mesra MADANI Pengerusi LKIM Bersama Nelayan Negeri Perak’ programme at Dewan Serbaguna LKIM Negeri Perak which was also attended by the State LKIM chairman N Sundralingam.

MyIsytihar LKIM, which was launched on Aug 10, 2022, is designed to streamline the declaration process for fishermen and enhance the government’s ability to gather accurate fish catch data

The application will also ensure that all government initiatives, including subsidies for fishermen, are effectively utilised, resulting in better catches.

Earlier, Muhammad Faiz presented aid under the Peningkatan Pendapatan Nelayan B40-Bantuan Peralatan Penangkapan Ikan initiative to 136 fishermen in Perak.

At the event, he also handed over RM60,450 in aid from the Natural Disaster Relief and Fishermen’s Welfare Scheme to 65 recipients from the Perak Fishermen’s Association (PENGGERAK).

According to Muhammad Faiz, that the aid is aimed at increasing the income of B40 fishermen and enhancing their skills and proficiency.

‘The aid in
volves a fund of RM450,000, allocated to 136 fishermen in Kerian, Manjung Utara, Manjung Selatan, Pulau Pangkor, and Hilir Perak.

‘The assistance includes outboard motors, fishing barrels (fibre), life jackets, other essential equipment to enable fishermen to modernise their techniques and improve their catch,’ he said.
